Canna Tuerckheimii is native to Southern Belize and other parts of Central America and is a stunning plant and possibly the largest of the Canna species. Very ornamental, it has tropical-looking, very large leaves and reddish-pink flowers. Used as a landscape item it will make an imposing focal point and give any patio a taste of the tropics. Easy to grow and if given generous treatment, will probably flower the first year. Not cold hardy but can be grown in colder regions where the rhizomes should be dug up and stored overwinter. In more milder areas the foliage all die back with light frost, but the rhizome can be heavily mulched, to protect it, and should then re-grow the following spring. If containerised, it can be moved inside or placed in a greenhouse.
