Heterocarpus Heterophyllus or "Jackfruit" is a rare tropical plant that produces one of the worlds largest fruits. It can be container grown, and can be kept as a houseplant or grown outside during the summer months, It is a pure tropical plant and will need to be protected from frost. As a tropical plant it will prefer a high humidity environment, so can be placed on a tray with pebbles which can be filled with water to increase the local humidity. It can be also grown purely in the greenhouse. They can fruit whilst container grown, under the correct conditions after 3-4 years. Seedling will be sent in small pot, on delivery repot into a 2-3ltr rose (deep) pot so the taproot can establish and build a good root system. Use a good, well draining soil mix. When container grown the tree will stay small, but do not let it get pot bound. Seedlings at present are about 50cm tall (June 2016).
