Kaempferia Parviflora or Black Galangal is very RARE in cultivation in the UK and is used in Asia for many medicinal uses. The rhizomes for this plant are from Thailand. Galangal is part of the ginger family and will grow outside in the UK from May till the first frosts. "Parviflora" name refers to the small beautiful flower the plant produces. It can be grown in full sun and even in shade. It is said to be hardy to zone 8 and can be left in the ground (well mulched) so that it enlarges and spreads each year, or dug up and divided, to produce further plants.
