Theobroma Cacao is the tropical tree from which Chocolate is made! Yes, you can easily container grow these lovely small tropical trees in the UK. Theobroma's originate from South American jungles and prefer low light conditions, so can make a great and unusual houseplant, which when mature (from 4 years) can flower and then fruit, producing pods containing chocolate beans, The flowers themselves are extremely beautiful and fragrant. You will need to use a well draining soil mix and do not place the tree in full sunlight (it will damage the leaves), dappled or filtered light is all it needs. It is a true tropical, so do not expose the plant to temperatures below 15'c. I have grown all these plants from seed taken directly from a whole chocolate pod.
